Becoming Mosaic Alliance

For over twenty years, our organization has stood as a place of hope, support, and opportunity for individuals and families navigating poverty, instability, and hardship.

What began as Woman’s Co-op was rooted in a simple but powerful belief: people helping people.

Over time, our work has grown. What started as a grassroots effort focused on women expanded into something much broader serving men, women, and families, building workforce pathways, creating economic opportunity, and engaging in civic systems to address the root causes of poverty.

The process of arriving at this new name was organic, collaborative, and deeply reflective of who we are. We gathered as a team and began with a simple exercise. Dick pulled key words directly from our website – words rooted in our history, our mission, and our vision. He would say one word, and each of us responded with the words, emotions, and ideas it stirred in us.

From that first session, more than 150 words emerged. Those words represented not only our work, but our values, our struggles, our hopes, and the people we serve. We were then challenged to take those words and begin building potential names. When we came back together, we shared the names, the meanings behind them, and the vision they carried.

From that process, one name rose to the top: “Mosaic Alliance”

A mosaic, by definition, is a picture or pattern created by assembling small pieces of material often broken, irregular, and imperfect into something whole and beautiful. That is our work.

Every day we encounter lives that have been fractured by poverty, trauma, systemic barriers, and hardship. People who may feel broken, discarded, or unfinished. We also encounter systems employment, education, housing, justice that are often fragmented, disconnected, and difficult to navigate.

Our role has always been to gather those pieces.
To take what is shattered, rough-edged, and misshaped and help arrange it into something stronger.
Something purposeful. Something beautiful.

The word Alliance is equally important. An alliance is a cooperative agreement between individuals, businesses, and organizations who combine resources, strengths, and shared purpose to achieve something greater together.

This defines how we work.
We do not do this work alone.

We build alliances with employers to create workforce opportunities. We build alliances with community partners to remove barriers. We build alliances with systems to advocate for change. And most importantly, we build alliances with the individuals we serve walking alongside them as they rebuild, recover, and rise.

Together, Mosaic Alliance honors our roots in community support. It reflects our present workforce development and civic engagement. And it creates space for our future as an inclusive organization serving all people.

We are defined by what we build.
Piece by piece.
Person by person.
System by system.

A stronger, more connected community
That is Mosaic Alliance

Opportunity starts here
Where people and systems connect
Where pieces become possibility
